The University of Montana Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Sciences - Department of Curriculum and Instruction The Department of Curriculum and Instruction of The University of Montana s Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Sciences invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Teacher Education. The Department seeks individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups, individuals with international experiences, and individuals committed to improving the educational outcomes of children in economically disadvantaged communities. Position I is for an Assistant Professor in the area of reading education with a specific focus on Pre-K Elementary Classroom Reading Education. The position s duties are to teach reading methods and children s literature courses with an emphasis on teaching beginning reading that meets the Standards for Reading Professions (IRA, Rev. 2010). The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate level classes and will mentor and supervise students in field and clinical experiences. Position II is for an Assistant Professor position in teacher education. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate level classes in any combination of the following areas: educational psychology (theories of learning and motivation), early numeracy, multiculturalism/Indian Education, multi-tiered system of student supports, and information and library media. The candidate will also mentor and supervise students in field and clinical experiences. The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education and Human Science is the home of a NCATE- accredited undergraduate and graduate teacher education program committed to preparing exceptional teachers at all levels through a field-based focus. Required Skills Required qualifications for Position I, Reading Education, are an earned doctorate in elementary education or reading education and 3 years successful teaching experience at the PK-8 level. Preferred qualifications are: * Experience in teaching reading/literacy methodology; including experience with emergent literacy and teaching within a multi-tiered system of student supports. * Evidence of commitment to human and intellectual diversity with experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and commitment to improving access to higher education; * Experience in higher education working with undergraduate and/or graduate students; * Scholarship contributions to Professional Education; or evidence of potential to contribute to scholarship in Professional Education. * Ability to work collaboratively in clinical settings with university colleagues and PK-12 partners; * Ability to work collaboratively through committee work; * Commitment to classroom and clinical instruction in face-to-face and on-line formats guided by research-informed practices; and * A desired qualification is an individual with the credentials and background to serve as a lead faculty member for master s program in Library Media. Individuals in the last stages of completing a dissertation will be considered. Required qualifications for Position II, Teacher Educator, are an earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education or a related field, and 3 years successful teaching experience at the PK-12 level. Preferred qualifications are: * Experience or background in any combination of the following areas: educational psychology, cognitive sciences/ theories of learning and motivation, pre-school or early elementary math/ early numeracy, multiculturalism/ Indian Education, information and library media; * Evidence of commitment to human and intellectual diversity with experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and commitment to improving access to higher education; * Experience in higher education working with undergraduate and/or graduate students; * Scholarship contributions to Professional Education; or evidence of potential to contribute to scholarship in Professional Education. * Ability to work collaboratively in clinical settings with university colleagues and PK-12 partners; * Ability to work collaboratively through committee work; * Commitment to classroom and clinical instruction in face-to-face and on-line formats guided by research-informed practices.
