The University of Montana Missoula (UM) seeks applications for an accomplished individual to serve as Director, English Language Institute (ELI) and Special Language Programs. This position reports directly to the Associate Provost for International Programs. Since 1993, the English Language Institute has served international students from around the world. While enrolled in the English Language Institute, students receive the individual attention and academic support they need to enter a university or college. Students also benefit from access to all of The University of Montana s quality facilities. The Director will play an essential role in the continued vision and success of the strategic plan of International Programs. The Director will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, a service-oriented commitment to students, substantial knowledge and experience in TESOL program administration and planning, familiarity with pedagogical theory, and a record of scholarly activity. Additionally, the Director will guide the professional growth of the English Language Institute and its programs through entrepreneurial, innovative and collaborative endeavors while upholding The University of Montana s commitment to diversity and international education. In particular, this position will: * Provide strong leadership for the English Language Institute (ELI) teaching and support staff under the direct supervision of the Associate Provost for International Programs. * Provide direction for the mission and vision of the Institute s Strategic Plan including assessment, implementation, and continuous accreditation. * Promote and actively recruit for the English Language Institute and special language programs through both travel abroad and negotiations with foreign governments, agencies, embassies, international contacts, and other appropriate agencies. * Create a system of professional assessment in order to select, supervise, mentor, and evaluate a well-qualified faculty and staff. * Oversee curriculum development, design, and implementation. * Oversee the daily management of the Institute, including the supervision of faculty, staff, and students. * Identify, negotiate, develop, and manage professional training programs with an emphasis on revenue-based and externally-funded programs. * Maintain professional involvement in the field of TESOL and language programs. * Design, develop, and promote distance learning opportunities. Required Skills The successful candidate will meet each of the following qualifications: * An advanced degree in a related field and 5 years of teaching and administrative experience in an intensive English program, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. * Proven achievement in the development of global partnerships and revenue generating programs. * Strong interpersonal, oral and written skills. * Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy while working with foreign universities, agencies and organizations. * Demonstrated ability to foster and develop professional relationships. * Demonstrated ability to organize work effectively, manage and motivate staff, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and engage in problem-solving and decision-making. * Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current global and economic issues. * Sensitivity to and experience with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. * Proof of scholarly activity and professional engagement in the field of TESOL. * Advanced knowledge in the use of computer software programs for personal computers, including Microsoft Office Suite. Candidates with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: * Professional experience teaching English abroad. * Professional experience in TESOL teacher training. * Demonstrated experience in TESOL curriculum and materials development. * Proficient in a language other than English.
