The College of Technology at The University of Montana invites applications for a professional position as Director of Advising for the College. The individual selected for this position provides leadership, training, direct supervision and evaluation for full and part-time professional advisors in the College. The director is accountable for meeting advising program objectives; for expanding the College s transfer mission, and management of more complex academic advising activities. In addition, the advising director will collaborate with Bitterroot College advisor ensuring dynamic collaboration related to College programming. The position is 50% administration and 50% advising. The director will identify, develop and implement a College-wide advising program with particular attention to advising needs of general studies students. Typical responsibilities include: supervises other professionals and administrative associate in the Office of Advising, represents the College with University of Montana Office of Student Success and the Undergraduate Advising Center, works closely with College Retention Coordinator (in efforts such as tracking UM COT graduates), manages UM COT course evaluation process each term, requests web updates as needed for academic advising portion of website, produces needed database reports associated with advising, assists with co-curricular programming and event planning (such as orientation ), other duties as assigned. Required Skills The program director must have a Master s degree. The successful candidate will have: * Three to five years of academic advising experience in a post-secondary institution, preferably in a two-year degree granting institution. * Two years experience directing and supervising others * Experience in the assessment of academic advising * Familiarity with current trends in Academic Advising and higher education * Familiarity with CAS Standards regarding academic advising * Experience working with developmental and occupational/profession oriented curricula * Strong written and verbal communication skills including sensitivity to open-ended questioning, non-verbal communication, and active listening; demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills * Management experience in planning, development, implementation * Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty, staff and student populations * Exceptional customer service and organizational skills * Experience reading and interpreting reports and data and communicating with the administrative representatives of the College and the University * Strong computer and analytical skills * Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity * Ability to: * Work independently and in a team. Interact effectively and work collaboratively with other departments in the College as well as across the UM-Missoula campuses. * Listen and positively respond to student and co-worker requests. * Exercise judgment in the application of college policies and procedures. * Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. * Solve practical problems in conjunction with colleagues in The University. * Develop appropriate processes related to issues which have arisen related to the activities of advising. * Manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines. * Adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities. * Maintain confidentiality.
