The University of Montana invites applications for a Training/Development Officer position in Human Resource Services. Position reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Human Resource Services and has the autonomy, authority and expectation to independently create/design, promote, implement, and/or manage effective training and development programs on campus. Training sessions and programs will include, but are not limited to: * Compliance training * New Employee Orientation program * Comprehensive supervisory training program * Policy and procedure training * Developmental and special interest sessions * Quality of worklife/wellness sessions Training and Development Duties * Creating training and development opportunities that focus on the critical knowledge, skills and abilities needed for UM supervisors and employees to ensure compliance and continued growth in the administration of federal and state employment regulations, laws, negotiated contracts, wage and hour rules, FMLA, ADA, etc. * Developing and designing appropriate curriculum and individual course materials to meet stated objectives utilizing andragogical theory and techniques. * Conducting a variety of training sessions and programs offerings, which may periodically involve carrying papers and course materials across campus for training sessions; researching the availability of appropriate training and development professionals needed to meet additional training needs, including negotiating and managing contracted service. * Determining effective training assessment methods and analyzing assessment data utilizing a variety of well-designed educational tools. * Managing the allocated budget for programming needs. * Analyzing assessment results utilizing current techniques to determine effectiveness and ascertains needs for future trainings, courses and programs. * Consulting and collaborating with University executives to determine critical needs, long term needs and developmental opportunities for university employees. * Interacting with both internal and external agencies for both training needs and reasonable accommodations. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Officer Duties * Directing the activities of managers across campus with regard to ADA reasonable accommodation requests, and serving as the ADA expert * Managing ADA reasonable accommodation program for university employees, including ensuring departmental managers are in compliance with associated laws, rules and policies. * Determining and implementing appropriate reasonable accommodation/s as requests and/or needs for a reasonable accommodation are known. * Managing the interactive accommodation process. * Actively participating on University committees involved with the issues of accessibility, accommodation and diversity on campus. * Providing a support mechanism to employee s with disabilities. * Determining what, if any, medical documentation is required for reasonable accommodation/s and appropriately documents any accommodation put in place. * Tracking accommodations and expenses according to ADA regulations; managing the universities accommodation fund and communicating the financial needs of the program as needed. * Developing a variety of reports for management. Required Skills * Prior experience creating, administering, managing and teaching training and developmental programs and courses * Advanced knowledge of and experience in developing curriculum and course materials * Advanced knowledge of and experience in applying the Americans with Disabilities Act for reasonable accommodations * Knowledge of and ability to apply andragogical techniques and theories for adult learners * Experience researching and finding appropriate reasonable accommodations * Experience working independently and making appropriate decisions * Demonstrated professional communication skills * Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills * Experience in interpreting and applying labor laws, rules and polices * Ability to determine assessment methods and create assessment tools for orientations and trainings offered with the ability to analyze data, provide appropriate reports and use data to make program/course changes * Experience problem solving, exercising sound judgment and maintaining a professional, personable demeanor * Expert written communication skills; business English, grammar and composition with the ability to write and manage contracts for trainers/teachers used in programs * Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines while providing attention to detail * Advanced public relations and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and create and maintain effective relationships with the campus community and internal and external agencies * Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers and related software (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) * Experience maintaining strict confidentiality Required Experience * Bachelor s degree in Business, Human Resources, Education or related field and at least three (3) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
